Wysiwyh

Sound installation – aluminium and brass plates, transducers and multitrack composition of found sound and field recordings

Wysiwyh – what you see is what you hear – unites the vertical past of the sandstone tower at the Achtersikkel square with the horizontal present. Since the 15th century, the Achtersikkel complex has had various functions: patrician house, monastic retreat, establishment of the national choir society, a masonic lodge, the Van Crombrugghe’s society and the current Royal Conservatory. When ascending the spiral staircase, the stones reveal their memory by means of solid aluminum plates. At the top of the belvédère, brass plates vibrate as auditory orientation panels into the horizontal panorama.

Concept & creation: Joris Blanckaert en Jesse Broekman

Wysiwyh is part of the OMG! Seven Senses Tour in Ghent, July 2nd, 2020 until October 31st, 2020.
